Hallmarks of quality-constructed upholstered furniture
Air- and kiln-dried lumber used in frame.
A selected hardwood frame ensures durability and dimensional stability.
Back pillows should be generously filled with a soft yet resilient quality filler such as Dacron, feathers, down, etc. Pillow should recover its shape after being compressed by sitting.
Cushions, like back pillows, should also be generously filled with quality cores, such as poly-foam or spring down, wrapped with Dacron or other quality materials.
Individually selected coil springs are an indication of high quality. This helps ensure that different weight-loads are accommodated for maximum comfort.
Chamfered frames are those in which all of the sharp edges of the frame, over which fabric or cord are applied, are shaved off, providing a smooth surface that won't cut fabric.
Shaped and contoured frames are made to follow the shape of the sofa. In other words, curves aren't simply padded in, with no support.
An eight-way hand-tied deck is usually used on the highest quality, most expensive upholstered pieces. In this configuration, the inner springs rest on an interlaced arrangement of propylene webbing straps which go from front to back and side to side.
